No-Code Migration

Returning Bubble Client: Strangler Migration to Next.js + PostgreSQL

A founder came back after outgrowing Bubble—per-app fees, slow loads, and no path to real AI. We mapped a phased migration to owned Next.js + PostgreSQL with parallel run and zero-downtime cutover.

The Problem

Bottom Line: The legacy architecture restricted business growth and generated massive technical debt due to rigid, off-the-shelf limitations.

The client had built their core product on Bubble.io and hit the usual scaling walls: per-app pricing that climbed with every new workflow, 3–5 second page loads on complex screens, and no way to ship streaming AI or own their data layer. They had worked with Slickrock before and returned when migration became urgent—not experimental.

Our Custom Solution

Bottom Line: Slickrock.dev implemented a zero-debt, AI-native architectural replacement that matched exact operational workflows.

We ran a strangler-fig migration: extract Bubble data via the Data API, normalize into PostgreSQL, and rebuild critical workflows in Next.js 15 with React Server Components. Both systems ran in parallel while we validated data parity. New AI features (RAG, copilots) shipped on the custom stack from day one of cutover—impossible on Bubble's plugin model.

The Outcome

Bottom Line: The client achieved immediate ROI, eliminated their recurring SaaS tax, and gained total data sovereignty.

The client cancelled Bubble before renewal, eliminated per-app OpEx, and gained an owned asset on their balance sheet. Load times dropped to edge-rendered sub-100ms targets. They control their roadmap, infra, and AI stack without vendor gatekeeping.
